Her surname is often given as Miller on family trees at Ancestry.com. No original record has been found to prove the Miller surname, but it is plausible given that her first son was named Enoch Miller Wheelock (b. 3 Nov 1816, per FindAGrave memorial 14625870), and that an Enoch Miller is enumerated in the 1810 census, living in the same town as Gideon and Susan - Sempronius, Cayuga Co, NY (-21-1 -1--1-), age at least 45, placing his birth on or before 1765, old enough to be Susan's father.

Gideon is known to be the son of Gideon Wheelock and Sarah Forbush of Hardwick based on two facts: (1) Gideon was a witness to his mother's signature on the administration bond for his father's estate (Worc probate case 63691), and (2) on 17 Feb 1798, Gideon Wheelock, of Hardwick, sold for $150 to Calvin Seaton of Greenwich, Franklin Co, Massachusetts "a tract of land being in the westerly part of the township of Hardwick, that is to say, one fourth part of the right belonging to me by kinship to the farm my honored grandfather David Wheelock now lives on" (Worc deed 133:555).

He was living in Cayuga Co, New York on 11 Dec 1802, when Gideon Wheelock, of Locke, Cayuga Co, NY sold to Daniel Johnson, of Hardwick, Worcester Co, MA, the real and personal estate belonging to David Wheelock, of Hardwick, of which Gideon Wheelock (the grantor) was heir (Worc deed 149:320).

The marriage of Gideon Wheelock and Elizabeth Handley is recorded 19 July 1800 in "Documents Relating to the Colonial History of the State of New Jersey, Volume XXII, Marriage Records, 1665-1800", by William Nelson, The Press Printing and Publishing Co, Paterson, NY, 1900, Pg 633, online at books.google.com, Mar 2010. This could be the same Gideon Wheelock, whose neighbor, in Cayuga County was Ezekial Handley (Cayuga County Deeds, Phillip Fox to Ezekiel Handley, dated 31 Mar 1810, identifying Gideon Wheelock as an abutter, Vol O, Pg 99).

He is enumerated in the 1810 census, living in Sempronius, Cayuga Co, New York, age 26 to 44, with a girl under 10, and a woman age 26 to 44.

In 1820 he was living in Locke, Cayuga Co, New York (2----1 11-1--1) age at least 45, with 2 boys 10 or under, 1 girl 10 or under, 1 girl 10 to 15, and one woman 26 to 44.

In 1830 he was living in Erin, Tioga Co, New York (-12----1----- --1---1) age 50 to 59, with 1 boy 5 to 9, 2 boys 10 to 14, one girl 10 to 14, and one woman 40 to 49.

In 1840 he was in Menard, Illinois (--------1---- ---1) age 60 to 69, with one female age 15 to 19.

He died 26 Apr 1844, age 67 years, 9 months, 17 days, and is buried in Bethel Baptist Cemetery, Saidora, Mason County, Illinois.¹

Notes:

On 2 June 1798, James Hallowell and his wife Sally of Hardwick sold a tract of land lying in western Hardwick to Roger West. The tract abutted land on which David Wheelock "now lives on, which land fell to us by heirship by our honored father Gidian Wheelock deceased." The deed is dated 2 June 1798.¹

On 18 Nov 1802, Sally Hollowell and Lydia Merritt signed an affidavit attesting that they were relations of David Wheelock of Hardwick, and that he was "through age and infirmity rendered incapable of taking care of himself" and therefore requested that a guardian be appointed for him.²

James Hallowell "late of Hardwick" and his wife Sally sold their right to the estate of David Wheelock "of said Hardwick" to Daniel Johnson for $100 on 18 December 1802.³
